Must-Have Beach Decor for Your Home

Just because you live somewhere far away from the ocean, that doesn’t mean you can’t create a perfect tropical getaway inside your home. When you’re looking for beach decor inspiration, you’ve come to the right place here at The Island Shop!

You don’t have to live in Bermuda to enjoy the tropical colors of The Island Shop’s hand-painted designs. But today, we wanted to focus on how you can go about decorating your home within the realms of a tasteful beach theme. Using specific pieces and colors, we’ll walk you through a few of our favorite ways to decorate. But first, we want to answer a few beach decor questions.

Beach Decor FAQs

Before we dive into the deep end of decor, you may have a few questions we wanted to clear up. You probably already have an idea of what ocean themes look like, but possibly don’t know where to start when it comes to what you should look for.

What is Considered Beach-Themed?

If you’ve ever rented a beach house, you’ve likely experienced anchors, fish, and other nautical-themed decorative accents. But that’s not always the case. The Spruce organizes beach decor into three distinct categories:

  • American Coastal: Basic elements, a lot of natural light, neutral tones.
  • Tropical Island Coastal: Bright colors, tropical patterns, natural greenery.
  • Mediterranean Coastal: Natural light, bright colors, black metals.

Each style is unique, but the best part? You can use The Island Shop’s decor items for any of these styles!

Is it Possible to Make Beach Decor?

Yes! If you live near the beach or even like to visit frequently, you can use any shells or driftwood you find for DIY beach decor projects. Also, if you aren’t close to the beach, you can make amazing prints with leaves or artwork that you find online. We suggest checking out a few beach decor projects on Pinterest or browsing our shop for inspiration.

Ocean-Inspired Kitchen and Dinnerware

Depending on your ocean-themed style preferences, bright colors may scare you off. But blue doesn’t have to be the only color that dominates in your decor.

One of our favorite ways to add a touch of the tropics to any home is to bring the ocean into the kitchen. Now, don’t go painting everything blue. Instead, stick to brighter, more “airy” colors. Natural tones with pops of color can be your best friend. Here are some of our favorite products that are perfect in any ocean-inspired kitchen:

Beach Themed Wall Art

Wall art can range from a few simple pieces to accent walls, to an extravagant art wall that is the main focus of your home. Personally, we love both styles! For a more simplistic and elegant feel, we suggest going with “softer” artwork that works well with any wall color or piece of furniture.

When you’re going for a more eclectic or colorful feel, we love styling out our tropical prints in different configurations. You can even mix and match prints on a gallery wall with other ocean-inspired decor or art. Our hibiscus prints look exceptionally great in multiple colors!

Tropical Pillows and Linens

Kitchens and walls aren’t the only places to show your love of beach decor. In fact, you can show your love for all things nautical pretty much anywhere in your home. Bedroom, bathroom, living room—wherever you can think of!

But when you’re not ready to put up the palm frond wallpaper, we suggest a few more straightforward (and smaller) decor options. Our linens go great as accent pieces and work well when you want to mix and match patterns and designs.
